On Monday morning, 25th September 2017, Waterford Principal Mr. Stephen Lowry announced the appointment of Mr. Donovan King as the Deputy Principal (pastoral/administration) from the start of 2018. Mr. King will take over from Mrs. Kate Doyle who is leaving the school at the end of the year 2017.
According to the school principal, the recruitment process started in July 2017. “Starting in July, the selection process involved advertising the post in a number of recruiting websites internationally and in the region, using the services of three recruiting agencies and advertising in the media including the Times Educational Supplement which is possibly the premier international site for vacancies in the profession,” he said.
“The search process elicited 48 applications, 14 from within Swaziland, 12 from the rest of Africa and the balance of 22 from beyond the continent. An initial selection process including interviews whittled the field down to fifteen candidates, all of whom filled the selection criteria. Five were selected for a panel interview out of which two were considered as possible appointees. After a further stage of reference checking and interviewing the post was offered to Mr. King,” he continued.
Mr. Donovan King has been the head of Waterford’s Esiveni residence since 2005, giving him intimate knowledge of the complexities of the school residential life. He has deputized as the deputy principal on two previous occasions both for lengthy periods of time: six months in 2009/2010 and 6 months in 2013. “He has participated in a number of professional development courses both locally and in the region. He has a broad spectrum range of experience of the school, having played a range of different roles since he joined the staff in 2003,” said the school principal.
