Giving back to the community

On Monday, 19 December, Ntokozo Bhembe (Swaziland, WK 06-07), Sakhile Dlamini (Swaziland, WK 06-07) and Njabulo Masuku (Swaziland, WK 97-00) brought together the Swazi community for a Google Tech focused presentation that took place at Mbabane National Library. These alumni are also founding members of Young Climbers in Swaziland. This is an organization that was founded in 2005 by young professionals and students with a vision to inspire young people to make a significant difference in their life and the country.

Sakhile is a software engineer and Ntokozo is a data architect at Google. They are in Swaziland for their festive season vacation. They took advantage and made a presentation that will inspire Swazis as well as inform them about opportunities in the technology community.

In a well-attended event, Sakhile started off by presenting about IT trends, interviewing for google, mobile technology development and the importance of analytics. Ntokozo demonstrated how to reach your clients effectively, making an impact in a competitive workplace, and opportunities available overseas. The most important part of the presentation was their personal stories; narrating how they got to where they are and what they envision their future to be. These were truly inspirational and illustrated that it is possible to achieve your dreams. Sakhile emphasized that Swazis should realize how intelligent and skilled they are. “When people hear your dream, they should laugh at you in disbelief, “Ntokozo shared. The heated discussions involved topics on how to get students excited about IT, how to change the education system to incorporate thinking outside the box, relevant IT jobs in Swaziland, what is needed to develop a mobile app, and how to constantly work on improving ourselves.

This was a very successful and informative event. Thank you to Young Climbers and these alumni who continue giving back to the community.
