The Value of a Waterford Education: Harvard’s UWC Impact Study

A while back I wrote about the Harvard UWC Impact Study and encouraged everyone in our alumni network to participate in this historic study for the UWC movement. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have already participated in the study, and to further ask all Waterford alumni who have not completed the survey to add their voice to this critical evaluation of the UWC experience. This study seeks to show the impact of a UWC education on the skills and attitudes of its graduates. Due to limited empirical research to demonstrate this, UWC partnered with researchers from The Good Project of Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, who are conducting this scientific study that investigates the impact of a UWC education on UWC graduates. As Waterford Kamhlaba we see this as an opportunity to measure the value of our education. You have until this Sunday, 13th October 2019, to make your voice heard. Once you have completed the survey, please reach out to more alumni to participate. Could I appeal to any current parents and students to please reach out to any alums they may know to participate in the survey?

Music Concert

This evening, starting at 7pm, we will hold a music concert that showcases curriculum work from Forms 1, 2 and 3, as well as some performances by our ensembles. I would like to encourage parents to attend what promises to be an exciting concert.

Here is a reminder regarding arrangements: Day students were asked to indicate whether they will go home after school and return for the concert, or whether they will remain at school. Therefore they were asked to sign up for one of the following options:

Option one: Students go home at the usual time. Transport will be available to return to school leaving the exit of Pick and Pay in town to return to Waterford at 6pm. All performers then report to the Michel Stern Hall at 6.30pm.

Option Two: Stay at school. Have dinner at 5.45-6.15pm, then report to the Michael Stern Hall at 6.30pm.  Dinner will only be provided to those students who signed up.

Evening of Dance

The annual Evening of Dance will take place on Wednesday 16th October at 7pm in the Assembly Hall on campus, and will last for approximately an hour. This event gives an opportunity to those students who have passion for dance to share their talent with us. Some of the pieces are choreographed by our dance teachers who offer their expertise to our students, and some are choreographed by the students themselves. There is a variety of styles in this year's show.

The entrance fee is E5 or any amount you might want to donate. Every year we donate the proceeds of the evening to one of our Community Service projects.

We look forward to seeing you there!
