Latest Stories - UWC AFRICA WEEK 2024
The Waterford Kamhlaba is excited
to present UWC Africa Week 2024, taking place from 3rd - 10th July. The Opening
Assembly will be addressed by WK alum Fanele Mashwama, and the keynote speaker
is another WK alum, Lehlé Baldé-Cameron.
UWC Africa Week at WK is an
annual, student-led event that has become the largest of its kind in Eswatini
and one of the most significant on the African continent. The event provides a
platform for students to explore Africa and reflect on the continent's
challenges and opportunities. It also showcases the heritage of diverse
cultures and promotes intercultural understanding through artistic expressions
such as music, poetry, dance, and visual arts.
The week includes an opening
assembly, panel forums, keynote speakers, interactive workshops, panel forum
debates, diplomatic roundtables, a visual arts exhibition, and Africa Night—a
night of live music performances, poetry, dance, and fashion from Africa. It
brings together leaders from various sectors, including industry, economics,
regional organizations, diplomacy, arts, academia, and civil society, along
with students and staff.
To bring this mega event to life
every year, ten student-led departments work collaboratively: Administration,
Africa Talks, Africa Night, Assembly & Conference, Entertainment,
Hospitality, Media & Marketing, Operations & Logistics, Panel Forums,
and Workshops.
