Latest Stories - STEVE MCGUIRE TO DELIVER THE 2024 MICHAEL STERN LECTURE

22 Jan, 2024

On February 2nd, 2024, beginning at 5:30 PM, the annual Michael Stern Lecture Series will be held on the Waterford Kamhlaba campus, in honour of the College’s Founder, Michael Stern, as well as to celebrate Waterford’s 61st birthday.

The Stern Lecture Series is held annually in Term 1 of the academic year and is a hybrid event with a global and local audience. The 2024 speaker is Waterford’s Eco Estates Manager, Steve McGuire, who will speak on the topic:

“Sustainable Solutions from a School Born of Hope”

This year’s theme seeks to explore the College’s different environmental sustainability initiatives and also speaks to the fact that Waterford has always had a deeper commitment to the environment. The College also seeks to use this opportunity to launch its Solar Farm fundraising campaign, through which it is embarking to raise E50 million to establish a solar farm. Waterford’s objective is to go off the national grid completely, as it moves towards being carbon neutral by the year 2030.

Those who are not able to attend the event in person can do so virtually.

“We at Waterford are so proud of Steve McGuire and are delighted for this opportunity to share our sustainability initiatives to start the campaign together as we endeavour to raise E50 million (approx. $3M) for the College’s historic solar plant project. As we embark on this campaign, we seek the generous support of our community to make it possible,” says the College Principal, Jackie Otula.
