Latest Stories - BRAVEGIRL CAMP STARTS WITH A BANG!
The annual BraveGirl camp started
on Monday, 14 August 2023, on the Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA campus, with 48
girls from around Eswatini participating.
“In total, the program has about
70 people in it, with many of our students and some teachers (facilitators)
spending part of their break volunteering in this program,” says Waterford
Kamhlaba’s Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) Coordinator, Fanele Chester.
On the first day of the camp,
there was visibly massive excitement among the participants, who were girls
from around Eswatini.
BraveGirl is a girl empowerment
movement based in Mbabane, Eswatini, and a Waterford Kamhlaba initiative. It
aims to promote gender equality by hosting an annual five-day residential camp
for girls from Eswatini.
Fundamentally, the camp provides
these girls with a safe space to discuss issues young women in Eswatini and
worldwide are facing away from their communities. It promotes confidence
building, personal growth, and team spirit and encourages the participants to
take a stand on and promote women's empowerment in their communities. This is
achieved through numerous workshops and activities held throughout the week,
such as storytelling, mental health education, fashion shows, and karaoke
nights.
