On Wednesday 9 June 2021 WK students launched SpeakIt, a platform that enables writers and speakers, especially young people from across the globe, to share their insights on current affairs, analyses and predictions about the future on any subject of their choice.
This initiative is the brainchild of four IB1 students at Waterford: Bongani Mwonzora, Tariro Musarandega, Reward Mulauzi and Tinotendashe Chigerwe. During the event, a website and mobile application were introduced in the presence of guest speaker Mrs Sebenzile Dlamini, who is also a Waterford parent, from the Royal Science and Technology Park. Mrs Dlamini encouraged young people to be courageous and innovative. According to Bongani, who is the Founder and Managing Director, ideas by young people will be published on the site and app so that the whole world can see them. WK Principal Patricia Angoy said, “Congratulations to our students for this great initiative. Indeed, they have demonstrated leadership. Waterford Kamhlaba continues to be more than just a school; it is also a centre of innovation and creativity, and a base from which our students can realize their full potential as they develop into being leaders for the African continent and beyond.”
