Phoenix Fund

The Phoenix Fund campaign rallies the Waterford Kamhlaba community - students, staff, parents and Governing Council - together to contribute resources towards setting up, improving and replacing infrastructure in the school. This initiative is more than just raising money; it is a collective gift by our community to our school, particularly towards small, but crucial infrastructure that is not covered in the budget for capital projects.

The projects to be funded are decided on by the students in a vote from a list made up of suggestions within the community. From 2016 only projects that can be funded from funds raised within the year will be on the list, as the principle is that the projects are funded and implemented within the year of the fund-raising drive.

From 2016, the Phoenix Fund Appeal happens biennially, alternating with the Community Service 24 Hour Run, to avoid fund-raising fatigue within the community.

Phoenix Fund Reports

Phoenix Fund campaign 2014

A completed outdoor learning space facility.

Phoenix Fund campaign 2015

The campaign aimed to raise R 305,000 towards a classroom heating system. It so happened that the campaign, for the most part, coincided with the 24-hour run. We raised a wonderful R 62,202 instead of the target, and after discussion with the SRC, it was decided to use the money to improve the school’s old audio-visual system in the assembly hall and CCLD and for more spectator stands for the fields.

Through our gifts, we now have better lighting on the sports field, improved our sound system and built outdoor learning spaces. We can still do more!

Phoenix Fund campaign 2016

We invite you to contribute to this year’s Phoenix Fund.

This year’s goal is to raise E90,000 towards the installation of solar lights along the pathways on the campus.

Through the generosity of UWC friend Shelby Davis, your donation will be matched 200%

It is possible to make your donation in any currency available and in the following ways:

  • Give your donation in cash (in ZAR, Emalangeni or your own currency) to your child when he/she returns to school after this holidays. Please put it in an envelope with your child’s name and your email address on it. In that way we are able to recognize you for your kind donation.

  • Make your donation using a bank transfer to WK’s Advancement Office account in Swaziland. Please use your child’s name and Form as reference, (ie “Linda Dlamini Form 4”) so that we can trace your gift and send you a thank you message.
